Jennifer Newman

Managing Editor, Legal Publications

Jennifer Newman is the Managing Editor of Legal Publications at AEquitas. Jennifer began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia. As a line prosecutor, she started by handling misdemeanor trials and felony preliminary hearings for domestic violence cases in Municipal Court. Jennifer went on to become a specialized prosecutor in the Juvenile Unit and Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit, handling bench and jury trials and seeking justice for victims of intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child abuse, and child sexual abuse. She regularly litigated complex motions to protect victims and hold offenders accountable, including motions to admit victims' statements under the doctrine of forfeiture by wrongdoing and other hearsay exceptions when victims were unable to participate at trial; rape shield motions to protect victim privacy; and other acts motions to provide necessary context for defendants' violent conduct.

Prior to her work at the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, Jennifer graduated with special honors in public service from Georgetown University Law Center. During law school Jennifer interned for the Montgomery County State's Attorney’s Office in Montgomery County, Maryland, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. As a law student, Jennifer also interned for AEquitas, conducting in-depth case law research on withdrawn consent rape and other challenging issues presented by sexual assault prosecutions.

Jennifer is a native Californian living in Washington D.C., and spends her free time sewing, playing video games, and nurturing a passion for strong coffee.
